Soloists

Glorious Chorus has been blessed with some outstanding soloists over the last ten years who have fronted the choir in performance. Most recently Mike Brooks (bass) and Rob Johns (tenor) have been added to this list. Sadly, the choir lost one of its favourite soloists, Jo Curry, in 2012. Below are some of the other soloists who have graced the choir with their talent....

Holly Hoskins

Holly joined Glorious Chorus in 2019 after joining Helen’s wonderful Thula Mama singing group for Mums and new babies. Holly has sung and performed in various guises over the years and is currently also a member of the Inn Theatre Company, specialising in outdoor Shakespeare.

Gary Castleton

Gary joined Glorious Chorus in 2016. Having a background in musical theatre & cabaret made him a natural front man in the choir. Says Gary, "l've found it the most satisfying way to entertain an audience” !!!

Sue O’Hara

Sue O'Hara joined Glorious Chorus in 2016 after a stint singing with baby accompaniment in Thula Mama with Helen. Sue loves singing big blues and gospel numbers and gets her vocal kicks singing in a covers band. Her biggest challenge so far with Glorious Chorus has been as a singing raindrop in Hyperballad. She was almost glad (and overwhelmed) when Helen asked her to sing lead in the song!

Ann Skinner

Ann Skinner only joined Glorious Chorus in 2016 and has already made her mark as an exciting new soloist. Watch her presence grow as she takes on more spots!

Fran Andre

Fran only joined Glorious Chorus in September 2014 and has already made her mark, singing exquisite solos on two key songs in the Christmas ’14 repertoire including a fabulous soul improvisation in Ave Maria. She is an accomplished musician in her own right, a cellist as well as vocalist and Head of Music at a Devon secondary school. Watch out for Fran in forthcoming GC shows!

Rob Johns

Rob is one of the original line up of Glorious Chorus who have been in the choir since it’s inception in 2003. Rob is a gifted singer and also guitarist - he learns all the songs by playing them on his guitar! You can hear him singing and playing guitar on the Stronger Acoustic single, a fundraiser for Amnesty International - Rob’s own arrangement of the Glorious Chorus anthem (see the News Page).

Mike Brooks

Mike Brooks

Mike has sung in several choirs in his singing career and since joining Glorious Chorus has been one of the choir's longest standing basses. Mike has a fabulous deep bass voice and you’ll be hearing him again this summer. He is the lead singer in the choir’s acclaimed rendition of Wild Mountain Thyme, featured on the new Tender Heart CD (see CDs page)

Katrina Crowley

Katrina Crowley

Katrina has also been with Glorious Chorus for many years after singing with other choirs including the popular Chordettes barbershop choir in Devon. Katrina’s sweet soprano voice leads the favourite Glorious Chorus song Return, which you can hear on the new Tender Heart CD. She also sings in ensembles in the choir’s performances.

Vernon Davis

Vernon Davis

Vernon joined Glorious Chorus in January 2015 and has already made a big impact with his strong tenor voice. He has spent time singing in musical theatre and other choirs where he sang many solos. We look forward to hearing a lot more from Vernon in the future.

Louise Parker

Louise Parker

Louise Parker, renowned jazz singer and recording artist, joined the choir from the start. Juggling her choir commitments around her tight jazz itinerary has been a feat in itself, yet she has never failed to dazzle with her inimitable style. Louise has recently added Helen’s songs to her own repertoire – "It’s a win-win!" says Louise." Check out Louise's website.

Holly Macinnes-Hurd

Holly Macinnes-Hurd

Holly MacInnes-Hurd was a remarkable new find when she stepped into auditions back in 2007. Her achingly beautiful voice soared over the choir in Helen’s soulful songs, and she managed to command both soft romantic ballads and rocking gospel solos to great effect. Holly has gone on to be a singer-songwriter in her own right and has just paused to have her first baby (Juno) - congrats Holly!

Faith Burch

Faith Burch

Faith Burch sang with Glorious Chorus for 6 years, adding her unique voice to the choir’s ‘spice cupboard’. Her electric Celtic calling over Helen’s 4 seasonal songs was a highlight. Before she left the choir she showed off her bluesy side with a beautiful rendition of "Show Me A Man".
